Being Young is not a Guarantee
You are young… it'll happen…just RELAX!
I was ready to punch the next person who told me to “relax”. Yes, we were “young” when we started trying to conceive, but being young does not guarantee a baby!
Dan and I started “trying” shortly after we got married in November of 2004 (I was 25). I went off the pill in January of 2005 and thought I'd get pregnant in no time. My cycles were all over the place and although this is very normal for someone who just went off the pill, I started to worry. I had a feeling that something was wrong, but I was told that I needed to wait a whole year to get a referral to the Regional Fertility Program. After many visits to my doctor, I got a referral in October of the same year and finally was seen by Dr. Wong in April of 2006. They did some testing and the next time we saw Dr. Wong we were told that Dan's sperm were covered in antibodies and that In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) (and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection or ICSI) would be our best option. I was shocked, but at the same time he confirmed what I had thought. Something was wrong.
We were told that we could give Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) a shot, but we decided not to do it. We were offered an IVF cycle in June and had 2 beautiful embryos transferred on July 14th, 2007. When our pregnancy test came back positive we were excited, but nervous at the same time. We just couldn't believe it. Finally we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy born April 3rd, 2007 (exactly 1 year after our first appointment with Dr. Wong!).
Words cannot describe how grateful we are for our son. The Regional Fertility Program made it possible for us to become parents; without their help, having a child might have not been an option for us.
