Miracles

When my husband and I met, it was truly love at first sight. We were in our early twenties, and knew from that first moment we would always be together. Unlike most people our age, we were anxious to get married and have a family of our own.

We got married two years later and we were ecstatic to start a family. After a couple of years of disappointment and tears, we were referred to the Regional Fertility Program (RFP). It was a very frustrating and heartbreaking time for us as we kept being told, "You're young, you have lots of time," and "don't worry, it will happen." But that is what made it so hard - we were young so why was it not happening? After some testing at the RFP it was discovered that I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). We proceeded to do Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), and our third attempt worked. Sadly our joy ended with an early miscarriage, and we were devastated. We tried again and this time we were successful and our four years of heartache brought us our first little miracle, a girl!

It was not long after our daughter was born we jumped right back in, knowing it could take some time. We did another four rounds of IUI, this time with superovulation, with no success. We decided to try In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and I began acupuncture treatments. While I was on suppression drugs we found out that by some grace of God we were pregnant! On our own! At almost ten weeks we lost the baby and our hearts were broken again. It was a very difficult and dark time, and our relationship grew to an even deeper level as we held onto each other.

We geared up for another attempt at IVF; it was a rocky road of good news one day and bad news the next. We were planning to transfer one embryo, but after a bad report on the quality we decided to transfer two. Soon after we found out we were pregnant and expecting TWINS! It was a difficult pregnancy; at one point we were told with 100% certainty that we would lose both of them. It was a scary time but they continued to thrive, then unexpectedly our baby boy and baby girl arrived 10 weeks early, at only 2.5 pounds each. After a long seven week journey of them being in Neonatal Intensive Care, we brought our two perfect little miracles home! Ten years after our love story began, we are living our happily ever after with our three precious children.

We will forever be grateful for everyone at the RFP who made our dreams come true!
